A few weeks ago, I was given an opportunity to join a mom's review site. I jumped at the chance, thinking it might be fun and might give us the opportunity to review some really cool new products. I wasn't disappointed!
Redefining Beautiful was our first book to review. Redefining Beautiful is a book written by Jenna Lucado. Her name is familiar to most Christians, because her father is none other than Max Lucado, whose books I have read over the years. Max has a way of putting things that encourage and edify the believer, while gently rebuking. His daughter, in my opinion, has received her dad's gift of writing.
Redefining Beautiful is written to teenage girls and is an honest, open look at what true beauty is. Jenna has a way of writing that captures your interest almost immediately and holds it until the book is finished. She writes in a way that young girls will enjoy, inserting humorous stories while still proclaiming the truth. She has given beautiful a new definition: what God sees when He looks at you!
In the midst of the confusing, pimple laded, insecure teenage years, Jenna lays the foundation for true beauty, intimacy with God. My 13 year old daughter has read about half of this book and is thoroughly enjoying it. She has told me that it is really interesting and it talks to her, right where she is now. When she finishes it, we will discuss the truths that were presented and how they are applicable for her life.
When God looks at me, He thinks I'm beautiful! What a wonderful concept to grasp so early in life! Thank you Jenna, for your honesty and your burden for girls.
