Sam's Quilt

Sam has been asking for a quilt for a few years now.  He noticed that he was the only one of the kids that I hadn't made a quilt for.  So I told him that after Emma was born, I would make him a quilt.
Around Emma's first birthday, I started him a quilt.  Then I needed to put the sewing stuff away, and it stayed away several months.  When I realized his birthday was coming up, I decided I was going to finish his quilt.
And I did.  He was very pleased with it.  It is a superhero quilt, with Spider man, Superman and Batman.
It came out very well, and very colorful.  I wasn't sure about it when I started it,but when it was finished, I loved it.
I found the perfect fabric for the backing walking through Walmart one day.  Spiderman, Ironman and Captain America.  Perfect!
Enjoy it Sam!

Last softball/baseball game of the 2012 season

Last week was the last game of the season.  It's always kind of a disappointment that when the girls are finally getting the hang of hitting and fielding, the season is over.
But they went out with a bang.
Anna is the picture of concentration.

This was when she hit the first of her two homeruns.
Crossing homeplate.  See the grin on her face?  She was very happy.
Ellie has improved tremendously this season and I think next year, she will be a force to be reckoned with.
Sam had a blast playing baseball this season.
And he made sure to employ the "Dziadul tongue" as he caught the ball.
It was a great, fun season!

My Utmost for His Highest

I was introduced to My Utmost for His Highest, many years ago.  My Mom has read it for years and Paul bought a copy for me many years ago for Christmas.  However, I never made it past a few days of reading it before I'd put it aside for another devotional book.  I always wanted to read it but felt it was too "deep" for whatever time I was at in my life.
My Aunt Roxie has been cleaning out her library and has sent us several boxes of great books.  She told me ahead of time she was sending a copy of My Utmost for His Highest.

But it wasn't just an ordinary copy.  It was my Grandma's copy.  Roxie gave it to her in 1982, just a few short years before she died.
It had all her markings in it, all done in red pencil, all done very neatly.  I was thrilled to get it and I began reading it.
And I loved it.  I can't wait to read it everyday and read what Grandma had underlined, and see what had spoken to her on that day.  It's almost as if I have a little bit of her back.  I can see which passages were important and on some of the pages she wrote little notes.
If you have never read it, you should try it.  It is not devotional "fluff" and it will not make you "feel good" most days.  In fact, I feel convicted most every day I read it.  I'm now underlining what speaks to me, in a blue pen, so that one day I can pass it down to my daughter or granddaughter and they can have something that meant alot to both me and their great-grandmother.

How cool is that?

Fun with Cardboard

Anna's hopechest arrived the other day (there will be a future post about this!).  But anyway, there was alot of cardboard pieces that resembled racetracks.  So Sam and Ben got busy and built a racetrack for their cars from the cardboard.  They even had it going across the living room at one point.

Ben was enjoying it.  They did races, trying to see which car went the furthest.

Ut oh.  Here comes trouble.  She was not content to just watch, she had to participate and of course, with her lack of "gentleness", she pushed and pulled the tracks apart, much to the boys' chagrin.
But she looked very cute doing it.
Sam gave up and took it all outside on the porch and built another track that Emma couldn't get into,.

Paul and I

This is a strange post.  I am sure I have never (or rarely ever) before posted pictures of just Paul and I
I received so many compliments at church that morning that Paul insisted on taking a picture of both of us.
I was helping him fix his hair!
Still in love after almost 24 years.

Emma with straight hair

Emma's sisters played beauty shop with her the other night and what resulted was amazing.  They straightened her hair and we were all shocked by how long it actually is.  That, and how different she looks with straight hair.

I think I prefer her with curls!!
